Completing the Work That Found Me:

I’m proud to share that I’ve just finished and submitted my final unit for my Level 2 qualification in Understanding Domestic Abuse.

This course was not easy. It was emotionally demanding, particularly because of my own lived experiences. But it was also necessary. Learning in this area matters deeply to me — not just academically, but ethically — because education is one of the most powerful tools we have to prevent harm, support survivors, and challenge systems that fail people.

As the Director of a newly formed CIC, I intend to use this knowledge practically and responsibly. Through workshops, community sessions, and collaborative projects, I will be incorporating domestic abuse awareness and education alongside the work I already do in mental health and disability advocacy.

While Let’s Talk North East CIC has a strong focus on mental health support, I am proud to now also offer:

• disability awareness and understanding

• domestic abuse awareness and support workshops

• trauma-informed community education

All delivered from an informed, survivor-centred, and accessibility-led perspective.

I want to thank everyone who has believed in me and encouraged me over the last few years. I’ve worked hard to reclaim the time I lost during the 15 years I was bedbound and housebound — years when access, opportunity, and support were limited or denied. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and I know this is only the beginning.

I will continue moving forward with purpose: uplifting others, supporting those who need it most, and working collaboratively with organisations, businesses, and fellow advocates who share the same values.

I didn’t go looking for this work — it found me. And in a society where accessibility is still treated as an afterthought, this work must continue. We need to challenge systems, demand better design, and build communities that truly include everyone.
