It's a slap in the face for the disabled...

...when councils share and promote diversity and disability inclusion and awards when they themselves are abandoning and discriminating against disabled people.

These deserve the award and have done amazingly but the way the council shares this news seems like they want to 'appear' like they care and support disabled people when in reality they don't.

I responded:

So why have they forgotten about the neurospicy and disabled individuals using the do it online form for Durham County Council?

There needs to be a check box for the council to call people back if they're on the assistance list.

It's not hard to attach a check box that would automatically add a call back to the most vulnerable customers of bulky waste.

I'm currently being discriminated against and can't do anything about it, if I get a fine I'm going to the news about the council taking my money and abandoning me with bulky waste cause I'm mobility impaired and can't move it a few inches outside my gate like abled bodied people can.

The assist list gives the council consent to enter the gardens of disabled and vulnerable customers so why can't the bulky waste section also support such customers instead of taking their money and running.

No rebooking. Nothing.

I'm currently waiting to hear back from the ombudsman and as much as I'm proud to see people fight for disabilities in my local area the council promoting the success of these individuals is a joke and a slap in the face when they don't support disabled people like they should themselves.

"It seems like a facade of support when they're treating disabled customers and neurospicy customers abysmally."

Some people have more than one disability and its about time the council rethought accessibility with their website!

#actionforpositivechange

We just want access to the same things as other people and just want our money to be paid for services that are completed and not taken and left abandoned with no help or support.

The world does NOT have to be like this!

More can be done!
