Why Pride is still needed:

Why Pride is still needed: Pride is still needed because legal equality does not automatically mean lived equality. LGBTQ+ people can still experience bullying, harassment, discrimination, rejection from family, hate crime and hostility simply for being who they are. Trans people in particular are currently at the centre of intense public and political debate, and young LGBTQ+ people can grow up hearing that their identity is something shameful, controversial or unacceptable. Pride is therefore about more than celebration. It is about visibility, community, remembrance and the freedom to exist without fear. It remembers people who fought for rights that many now take for granted, honours those who suffered or died because of prejudice, and gives isolated people a chance to see that they are not alone. Supporting Pride also doesn't require everyone to have identical beliefs about every issue involving sex, gender, sexuality or policy. People can disagree respectfully on difficult qu...

I Care Because I Know What It Means to Need Support

Image
I Care Because I Know What It Means to Need Support: I Care Because I Know What It Means to Need Support I restarted blogging while I was pregnant, but my instinct to advocate for others started long before that. For most of my life, I have spoken up when something felt unfair, harmful or inaccessible. I have raised awareness of disability, challenged barriers, supported people through difficult situations and tried to use my experiences to create something positive. This collage holds so many chapters of my life. It shows pregnancy and motherhood. It shows disability, mobility aids and moments when simply getting through the day required determination. It shows hospital visits and the years in which I supported my son through Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. It also shows campaigning, protest, awareness work and the gradual development of the advocate I am today. Behind every photograph is a story. Some are filled with love and joy. Others represent fear, exhaustion, pain and circumstan...

Celebrating how far I've come:

Image
Celebrating how far I've come: I’ve come such a long way. I know success is defined differently depending on who you ask, but since rebuilding my mobility and getting out of my wheelchair, I’ve had so many achievements to celebrate. ❤️ I’ve been featured in publications and media, worked as an actor, producer and filmmaker, appeared in movies and independent film projects, written blogs and books, created and released music, designed artwork and products, modelled, performed, spoken publicly and continued developing my own creative projects. Alongside that, I’ve spent years advocating for disabled people, survivors and vulnerable members of our communities. I’ve supported individuals through difficult situations, completed safeguarding and advocacy training, volunteered with charities and community organisations, founded support spaces, helped manage large online communities, created Aycliffe Alternative Magazine and used my platforms to raise awareness, celebrate local talent and ...

My Boundaries Remain in Place:

Image
My Boundaries Remain in Place: Today, I need to refocus on my driving as I prepare for my practical test. The noise, hostility and abusive distractions are not welcome. I keep reminding myself that storms pass. Until this situation is resolved, I will continue blocking anyone who brings hostility, harassment or personal attacks into my spaces. I am entitled to decide which people, organisations and community projects I promote on my own platforms. Our communities deserve spaces where people feel protected, respected and properly safeguarded. Because I have previously been harmed by organisations that were supposed to support me, I take concerns about conduct, accountability and positions of responsibility extremely seriously. I will not promote an organisation while I have unresolved concerns about the conduct of people affiliated with it, particularly where that conduct has caused me significant distress. That is a personal safeguarding boundary, not an instruction telling anyone else...

Family Time:

Image
Family Time: I had a wonderful day yesterday with my son, Brandon. ❤️ He had such a difficult start in life and has overcome so many obstacles, including leukaemia. The young man he has become inspires me every day. He is intelligent, creative and endlessly fascinating, and I will always be incredibly proud to be his mam. Yesterday, he introduced us to the work of Kane Pixels and explained how he developed his interpretation of The Backrooms. We watched some of Kane’s earlier footage while Brandon enthusiastically talked us through the story, ideas and filmmaking behind it. Brandon loves everything connected to creepypasta, horror and mysterious online worlds, and I love seeing how passionate and knowledgeable he becomes when discussing the things that interest him. I had missed him and my parents so much. I have been exceptionally busy and working incredibly hard behind the scenes, so this much-needed family catch-up meant the world to me. We also enjoyed a lovely meal together at The...

Sunflower Lanyard Matters:

Image
"Should people really have to verify they're disabled by wearing a sunflower lanyard?" Me: No, but considering some people seem to think my walking stick is a fashion accessory, it doesn't hurt to remind people that they can't diagnose invisible conditions, fractures, dislocations, internal swelling, or any other medical condition with their eyes. People can be incredibly ignorant. If wearing a Sunflower Lanyard helps remind others that not every disability is visible and encourages a little more patience and respect, then that's no bad thing. Respect shouldn't have to be earned by proving you're disabled, but until society stops judging people by appearances, anything that helps challenge those assumptions has value. Why The Sunflower Lanyard Matters:

Image
🌻 Accessibility & Disability – Why the Sunflower Lanyard Matters 🌻 The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a simple but powerful way for people with non-visible disabilities and conditions to discreetly signal that they may need additional support, understanding or patience. As someone who is autistic, has ADHD, hEDS, POTS and lives with chronic pain, my Sunflower lanyard has helped me communicate needs that aren't always obvious. Not every disability is visible, and a little kindness can make a huge difference. The new Sunflower Extra initiative gives people another way to communicate important accessibility information, helping businesses and organisations provide more personalised support while promoting inclusion. Accessibility isn't about giving people special treatment—it's about removing unnecessary barriers so everyone has the opportunity to participate with dignity. 💚 Be patient. 🌻 Be understanding. ♿ Remember that disabilities come in many forms. Free document for Aspiring Filmmakers:

Image
Free document for Aspiring Filmmakers: 📥 Free Download: Script Breakdown Checklist (Per Scene) One of the biggest lessons I've learned while working in pre-production is that a thorough script breakdown can save countless hours later in the filmmaking process. To help other filmmakers, producers, assistant directors, production managers and film students, I've created my own Script Breakdown Checklist (Per Scene). This checklist has been designed to prompt you through every scene of a script, helping you identify everything your production may need before you get to set. It covers far more than just cast and props, including: - Scene analysis and story purpose - Cast, extras and stunt requirements - Wardrobe, hair and makeup - Props, set dressing and special effects - Camera, lighting and sound - Locations and accessibility - Vehicles, animals and specialist departments - Health & Safety, risk assessments and PAT testing - Licences, permits, insurance and legal considerati...

Choosing Growth Every Day:

Image
~Choosing Growth Every Day~ Happy Friday everyone! 💛 I hope you all have a wonderful Friday and an even better weekend. This weekend I'll be working on script breakdowns, revising for my driving test and continuing to move several exciting projects forward. Every day is another opportunity to learn, improve and take one more step towards the future I'm building. One thing I've learned is that growth is a choice. It's choosing healthier habits. It's choosing to keep learning. It's choosing to protect your peace. It's choosing to keep moving forward, even when life hasn't always been easy. I'm really pleased to have signed up for the Resilience programme at Pioneering Care Partnership (PCP), where I'll be taking part in sessions to continue developing healthier ways of managing conflict, building resilience and strengthening my wellbeing. None of us stop growing, and I think that's something worth celebrating. My health journey is also cont...

Mr Flagman:

Image
Mr Flagman 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 (Poem by Sarah Wingfield) Mr Flagman, wrapped in red, white and blue, Shouting, "Freedom!"—but only for you. Proud to be British, you cry, uncensored and loud, Yet silence the voices that won't join your crowd. You claim to protect women, children, the weak, Until they disagree, until they dare speak. Then come the assumptions, the rumours, the lies, A story invented before truth even tries. You fill in the blanks with narratives made, Where facts disappear and fiction gets paid. A joke about flags, a wink and a grin, While threats hide beneath the humour within. "Let's find where they live." "It's only a laugh." Yet somehow it's always The vulnerable who feel the aftermath. "Come join the campaign." "Stand with the crew." But all that's required Is agreeing with you. The flags aren't for unity, They're banners of fear, A warning to anyone Who doesn't belong here. Inclusion is we...

Throwback: I can't believe I still have this photograph from 2003. Back then I was Magnolia Model, and looking at it now feels like opening a little time capsule. It's amazing how much life can change over the years. From modelling to acting, advocacy, writing, music, filmmaking, and everything in between, it's been quite the journey. Homelessness Awareness Track: 😱😱😱 I genuinely can't believe it. What started as a poem about homelessness has now become my most-streamed track on SoundCloud, reaching 7.8k streams. ❤️ I never expected this song to resonate with so many people, but it shows how powerful music can be when it shines a light on real issues and gives a voice to those who are too often ignored. 23k Streams! I'm so proud to say we've officially passed 23,000 streams! 🎉🎶 How wild is that?! From creating music whilst bedbound to eventually releasing it into the world, this is something I never imagined would become a reality. Nature and Slowing Down:

Image
Nature and Slowing Down: Since my main account has been down, I've found myself spending far more time in the real world instead of constantly being online sharing posts and supporting everyone else. Ironically, it's reminded me how important it is to support myself too. I've been slowing down, taking time to rest, getting outdoors, spending quality time with Peter, and appreciating the simple things again. ❤️ We recently had a picnic at a beautiful nature reserve before heading to the cinema to watch Scary Movie 6, and honestly... it was brilliant. 😂🍿 It's made me realise that no matter how many people you help, there will always be a small number who choose negativity. You can't control that, but you can control where you invest your time and energy. I'm genuinely thinking about deactivating my main account and slowing everything down for a while. Life is happening outside of social media too, and I don't want to miss it. For the first time in a long tim...

Floofy Bees, Small Wins & Reasons to Be Grateful 🐝🌼

Image
Floofy Bees, Small Wins & Reasons to Be Grateful 🐝 🌼 Today was one of those days that reminded me why gratitude matters. I've been making a conscious effort recently to focus on the positives, especially when life feels overwhelming, so I picked up a daily gratitude journal from Tesco. It's a simple little thing, but sometimes the smallest tools can help shift your mindset and encourage you to notice the good that's already there. This week has given me plenty to be grateful for. I've lost 10lbs using Foodvisor, which feels like a huge achievement. Not because of the number itself, but because it's evidence that consistency adds up. When you live with chronic pain, disability, and fluctuating energy levels, progress rarely looks dramatic. More often, it's made up of tiny decisions repeated over and over again until one day you realise you've moved closer to your goal. I'm making plans, meeting goals, and continuing to move forward, even on the diff...

A reminder to slow down:

Image
A reminder to slow down: A lovely afternoon at Ropner Park with Peter after I took my young person out to the cinema to watch Toy Story 5. ❤️ What struck me most about the film is how much of it reflects real life. People need purpose, connection, kindness, and somewhere they feel they belong. Lately I've been reminded that a lot of people are carrying around hurt, frustration, and bitterness. Sometimes it shows up in the way they treat others. That's why I think connection matters so much. A chat with a friend, quality time with family, supporting someone who needs it, or simply spending time in nature can make such a difference. For me, parks like this are a reminder to slow down, breathe, and appreciate the things that actually matter. The people we love. The memories we make. The opportunities we have to help one another. The world could do with a little more understanding and a little less judgement. Hope you've all had a lovely day. 🌳✨ Sarah Wingfield ❤️ Independent ...
