PIP and Universal Credit reforms risk destroying disabled people’s independence and routes into work: I’ve written to Andy Burnham about the impact PIP and Universal Credit reforms could have on disabled people who are already trying to work and remain independent. For me, further cuts or restrictions wouldn’t push me into employment — they could make me homeless, bankrupt and destroy everything I’ve been building towards becoming self-employed. PIP helps cover the extra costs of disability and supports independence. Councils, the NHS and charities simply cannot absorb the consequences if that support is removed. Disabled people need meaningful consultation, proper impact assessments and safeguards against poverty, debt and homelessness. This is my personal perspective and statement only based on factual information gathered. Politics as I see it in the UK: I have no issue with people sharing their perspectives — that’s what platforms are for. My concern is with systemic failures, not individual opinions. We are living with entrenched ableism, a lack of meaningful employment support, and the continued targeting of disabled citizens.  Support services are stripped away while assisted dying bills are pushed. Meanwhile, homeless veterans, elderly people, and young people are treated appallingly — yet society is more willing to help animals than humans.   Ok let's talk about the basic human rights protected by the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) – rights such as the right to life, the prohibition of torture and slavery, the right to a fair trial, personal liberty, privacy, freedom of expression, and protection from discrimination. These are not abstract or optional; they are the foundations that stop a government, police or courts from abusing power. Removing or weakening the UK’s commitment to the ECHR would mean removing the legal safeguards that allow ordinary people to challenge the state if their rights are violated. That includes wrongful arrest, unlawful surveillance, or mistreatment by authorities. The ECHR is also what enables people to seek justice when domestic systems fail, such as survivors of state neglect, disabled people denied support, families affected by unlawful detention, or soldiers sent to war without proper equipment.
