Today is International Women’s Day — 8th March. 💗 A day to celebrate the strength, resilience, creativity and courage of women everywhere. Women who speak up, women who survive, women who create change, and women who continue showing up in a world that often makes things harder than they should be. As a disabled woman, advocate, survivor and creator, I know how important it is for our voices to be heard — especially the voices of women who are often overlooked or underestimated. Today I celebrate all women: Women with disabilities, survivors, carers, mothers, artists, leaders, quiet fighters, loud fighters, and every woman still finding her voice. We are powerful. We are resilient. And we deserve to take up space. This is what dignity in action looks like. 🎯 Scotland becoming the first nation to provide free sanitary products nationwide isn’t “extra” — it’s basic human decency. Period poverty is real. It impacts education, work, health and self-esteem. No one should have to choose between food and menstrual products. Access to sanitary products is about equality. It’s about safeguarding health. It’s about removing shame from something completely natural. When governments recognise that menstruation is not a luxury, but a biological reality, that’s progress. Dignity should never depend on your bank balance. Today I was spoken down to — simply because I’m white. Yes. Really. My skin tone. 😵‍💫 It’s not the first time, and let’s be honest, it won’t be the last — which is surreal, because I genuinely thought we were past this. For me, it’s bizarre because I have never judged anyone by the colour of their skin. That’s not who I am and not how I move in this world. I acknowledge discrimination in all its forms — but I choose helping over harming. Always. 🤘🏻 I was talking about the charities I work with and the support I give to women and girls globally — and I was told to “shut up” purely because of the body I was born in. It reminded me of being a child, watching people mock or fear what was simply different, instead of understanding that actions define character — not skin. My great aunt had Down syndrome, and people used to speak to her like she was less. Yet she was intelligent, warm, and deeply perceptive. Difference is not inferiority. Never has been.
