Contact your MP RE changes to benefits for the disabled and sick:
It has come to my attention today that the government are looking again at reforming the benefits system for people with disabilities and the sick.
This is concerning so I suggestively advise and kindly ask people to email the following to your local MP, mine being Alan Strickland.
Dear MP Alan Strickland,
I am concerned about the government's potential changes to the benefits system that could remove critical support for sick and disabled people.
Recent reports suggest significant reforms are being planned for 2025, including changes to Personal Independence Payments (PIP), Work Capability Assessments, and Disability Living Allowance. These proposed changes are causing significant anxiety among people who rely on this support to live with dignity. Decisions on this scale must be informed by public input to ensure fairness and protect the independence of sick and disabled individuals.
As my MP please can you:
- Write to Chancellor Rachel Reeves and DWP Minister Liz Kendall to call for a public consultation before any major changes are made to financial support for sick and disabled people.
- Provide clarity on the scope and timeline of the government’s plans for benefits reform in 2025 so constituents like me can understand what is being proposed and how we can engage in the process.
I am one of over 47,000 members of the Organise community calling on the government to rethink their plans for cutting financial support. You can see the summary of responses to the previous government's consultation 'Modernising support for independent living: the health and disability green paper' from thousands of us here: https://orgn.is/uhfhe
Thank you for your time and support on this critical issue. I look forward to your response.
Kind Regards
Sarah Wingfield
As an independent Disability Advocate and a disabled individual, this is something I am passionate about and feel we need to work together to action positive change and keep important support available for those of us that need and rely on it.
If you could also help with this by emailing your MP, together we can help protect those disabled and sick from any proposed reductions in support and care in regard the benefit system.
We will not be an easy target for funds to be reduced because we as individuals need the support and our survival depends on it.
