Subject: Formal Response to Podcast Termination and Lack of Transparency
Dear Helen,
This response is wholly inadequate. It fails to address any of my direct queries regarding your social media policy, and it is both unreasonable and evasive to cite "drug use on social media" without clarity, context, or a specific link to my conduct. No reasonable person could accept that as a justified or coherent explanation for terminating my podcast.
At no point was any evidence presented that related directly to me. I welcome the recent press coverage that exposed this, as it is clear your actions lack both transparency and accountability.
Let me be clear:
My podcast is not affiliated with my prescription cannabis use or any aspect of my private life. Silencing a disabled advocate on this basis is not only discriminatory—it is a direct act of harm against the very community I represent. I am fully prepared to challenge this legally if necessary.
You claim to act in my best interests, yet your decisions have been erratic, unprofessional, and maladaptive. I will be formally escalating this matter.
To date, neither Durham County Council nor DurhamEnable has provided me with a full copy of the policies allegedly breached. This lack of transparency is unacceptable and raises serious concerns. Internal policies do not override UK law.
DurhamEnable clearly stated the podcast was part of my employability development—your stated remit. To then block that opportunity, with no valid justification, undermines the very purpose of your involvement and calls into question your organisational integrity.
The quote issued by your representative to the press is demonstrably false and misrepresents both the situation and my involvement.
As a result of this discriminatory and deeply distressing ordeal, I can no longer, in good conscience, continue working with DurhamEnable. You have failed me at every level—professionally, ethically, and personally.
You should reflect deeply on the damaging message this sends to disabled individuals seeking to make a positive impact. We deserve better.
Kind regards,
Sarah Wingfield
